Shokan Valihanov is the descendant of an ancient sultan sort. Its life (however, as well as death) is full of riddles and the interesting facts which could become a plot for

the tremendous blockbuster not less grasping or maybe and more interesting, than “Mongol” or “Nomad”. Probably, this too ordinary comparison, but quite worthy for mass perception.

Only four Europeans have visited there to Shokan: in XIII century — the well-known Marco Polo, in XVII — monk-Jesuit Gaes, in second half of XIX-th century — the Englishman, the name and which destiny remained unknown persons, and the desperate German traveller Adolf Shlagintvejt who has disappeared completely during the impudent expedition to the Central Asia. The Chinese authorities in every possible way interfered with penetration of foreigners into Dzungaria. Any European who has appeared in Kashgar, was considered by them as the spy and was exposed to the death penalty.

In June, 1858 Valihanov goes to travel. In a way of Shokan has got under way with a caravan of a Semey Musabai Tohtubaev`s merchant. He travelled under an assumed name Alimbai which have been changed clothes for east clothes and with smoothfaced, on local custom, a head. For one and a half month having reached riverheads Or, merchants have spent there month, being engaged in trade with Kirghiz then the caravan has moved to the Chinese border. To pass through Tien Shan in September it has appeared business hard. At transition through passes in high-mountainous snowflake and glaciers the most part of rams, camels and horses was lost. Besides, some times it was necessary to beat off from attacks of the predatory gangs plundering caravans in mountain gorges. At an input in a city the caravan by order of the Chinese authorities has been subjected to a careful search.

During stay in Kashgar Valihanov has got acquainted with many merchants, officials and other local residents. It managed to collect data on the population and roads “the countries of six cities” as named Uigur Kashgaria. The researcher wrote down also the data about a climate and the country nature, its economy. He has managed to establish destruction details in Kashgar brave Shlagintvejta to whom have beheaded at a city wall.
